[GreenKeys] Woot! M15 has arrived - and I am already STUCK!

Good for you.

I think you know what I ment about the coils. The machine will have two coils next to each other. They may or may not have the switch to put them in parallel or series. Without the switch you have to do the changing by moving the wires. Also they have to be 'phased' right so the magnetic fields help each other instead of trying to cancel each other out.

Depending on the machine the coils will be either the pulling type or the holding type. The holding type are more desirable as they have less inductance and work slightly faster. They are sort of brown and squared off on the ends where the pulling coils are more round and larger.

Without any power on the coils the machine does what i s called running open. Lots of mechanical things going on. Probably does not hirt anything more than when it is printing. When power is applied to the loop the magnets take hold and the machine quients down and about all that is moving is the shaft.

Nope, didn't know that there were two sets of coils - or that I needed to have the motor running to actually get the thing to pull in @ 60mA.

So I turned on the motor and now the damn thing just seems to work! Awesome..

The converter box seems perfectly fine as well, and the software only needed a couple of tweaks. I wasn't sending LF after CR, so added that. It also seems that there might be a minor timing bug. Should also look at adding all the features mentioned, such as multiple CRs, lead-in with LTRS etc.

But for now, I've got a printer. Haven't tried the KB yet..
