Horrible.... give them hell Jack.

I find we do ok with movie and ad people but we make them hare us
 to accompany units
an we ain't cheap as we would rather be in the building playing with
stuff!.

It they don't want to pay the tariff... we do not need them..

As you might be aware, I agreed to “lease” three of my 28’s
to a movie production company in New York (Long Island).
I also arranged for them to pick up a 28ASR from Danny,
W3VF, and two 28’s from Eugene, W2HX. Since Danny and
Eugene were near NY, their machines were picked up by the
production company’s prop truckers and their machines
were undamaged.

My three machines, two 28ASR’s and a 28KSR, were more
or less destroyed. Even though I had signs all over the machines
saying “do not lift at the keyboard” they were all three
lifted by the keyboards. The two ASR’s suffered other bumps
and dents and broken glass. Two of the three keyboard
“hoods” were wrecked. The KSR’s keyboard was “raised”
almost 2 inches, thus jamming it up against the top cover. It
appears they were in such a hurry to get the machines from
me that they shipped them overnight air freight from
Kansas City to NY, with no covering, pallets or anything else
(even though I was assured they would be shrink-wrapped
and palletized).

Fortunately, I had had them sign a lease agreement that clearly
stated any damages would be covered…and they paid dearly.
Of course, that doesn’t change the fact that I have had
these machines for 30+ years and moved them across the
country twice, and they lived in six houses…all without a
scratch.

I leased my machines three other times and never had
a problem…but that was because I lived within driving distance
of the movie studios (each time, in NY). So, I can’t blame
the movie production people entirely (although they
paid for the damages) more than the jerks who did the
shipping/handling.

Lessen learned…never again.

One good thing that came of the experience…I sent them three
machines and they brought back five (they were just delivered
prior to me preparing this email report). I bought Danny’s very
nice W.U. 28ASR and had the “Craig’s List” 28ASR that my brother-in-law
picked up for me out on Long Island (and was keeping in
his garage with no firm plan as to how I was going to get it) used in the
movie and
they shipped it to me. The Craig’s List 28ASR is complete, but
had seen better days. I will be parting it out soon…stay tuned.

I won’t go into my experiences at the movie studio…plane
crash in front of the building, and all….

73,
Jack K0TTY
