Thanks for the added details Duncan! can't wait to see it all together!
Ok it was shipped in a wood box. That was why it traveled as well
as it did.
Keep us posted! What a neat cold war communications artifact!

Ed & Pete,

I don't know all the transit details. My friend Roy, W2IT, who collects
Soviet radios and does a lot of buying & selling on ebay, took care of the
ebay & shipping details and it was delivered to his house by UPS. I don't
know how it started its trip. According to the original Ebay page, the T-63
was in Holíč, Slovakia (eastern half of the former Czechoslovakia). The
transit document that we got shows the first location as Brno, Czech Republic,
which is about 30 mi from Holíč, Slovakia.
The $259 shipping cost was quoted in the Ebay listing as "Economy Shipping
from outside US" and that is what we paid. Shipping weight was 58 Kg.

I did not see how the unit was packed, but was told it was not "crated"
but packed in a plywood box with a lot of styrofoam. The wooden cabinet
arrived in pieces (some glued joints had come apart), but that may have been
its condition before it was shipped, as there are a couple of screws holding
the cover together that do not look original. We should have asked for
more pictures before we bought it! The assistant director of the AWA Museum is
a good carpenter and he has repaired the cabinet.

Yes, we will be donating the unit to the AWA Museum so that it can be seen
by the public. I don't have much of a colllection of my own. I just bring
radios & TTYs home from the Museum temporarily to repair and "test" them.

The unit has a 220VAC, governed motor, so the 50 vs 60 hz is not a problem
(this is apparently typical of these units). Some specs I have seen imply
that it will also run on 110VDC. Seems like if it would work on both 110V
DC & 220VAC, that it should work on 120VAC?? (don't see any jumpers, or
switch to change voltage). or would be simple to make a 110VDC supply with a
bridge rectifier. (But then could not use the loop supply in the Telex box.)

The T-63 is modern-looking, compared to a M15. It has a cast aluminum
chassis, plastic terminal strips and two PCBs in the base. No active components
on the the PCBs, just used for power & signal connection points and
filters.

Duncan! I agree... it is totally cool with the multi alphas.. and the
shipping considering welght/ distance traveled not bad! was it crated?

Heh one time we paid 4 grand in shipping for some stuff for
Ohio.... but.... the stuff was so cheap and the movers did ALL the work
and everything was blanket wrapped and hand delivered in front of me at my
feet...... correct...you have to evaluate it as the cost of the item
being an aggregate of the purchase and the shipping... and ... if it makes
 sense? go for it!

Are you guys gonna lend it to the AWA tty display?

did it have the 50 hz motor? how are you dealing with the speed
issue?
