Also newark.com. I compare prices with digikey and mouser, and Newark.com usually has better prices. It’s worth looking at Fair Raidio Sales fairradio.com for surplus stuff.

I usually just buy specific parts I need now, though I have a good stock of everything. Typically buy from mouser.com but sometimes digikey.com or jameco.com.
Sometimes for something unusual or that can be expensive from standard sources, I find a lifetime buy. For example, I wanted a micro-sd socket that was easy to hand solder (leads protruding) so I found an eBay source with quantity, bought a few to test, liked them, and then bought 1000 for cheap. At dx.com, I have found lots of good deals (just takes ages to arrive). I got tiny smt push buttons I liked, and then got a few thousand more. May not be able to find a second source, but don't care now.
For surplus places I like BG Micro and All Electronics, and sometimes Electronic Goldmine.
