Also try Electronix Express in New Jersey. They don't have everything, but
they have an interesting assortment.

I recently needed some .00047 capacitors. After trying to work through
Mouser's website to find the parts, I listed the part number on Ebay and 
got a great deal.

Another approach is to buy bulk “assortments” on the auction sites for next to nothing. There is a bit of guessing involved in stocking this way. 
The cost of laying in an inventory can be amazingly small ….
