Hi all...
I can well recall as a "Newbie" in the Teletype
shop circa 1967, having been given my first "Training"
sessions, and rite up there with cleaning toilets, changing
light bulbs, sweeping shop floor etc., was the forced
task of re-aligning every M14, 15 & 20 typebasket the
shop supervisor cud find, or so it seemed...
In actuality. most of the ones were in the Communications
Centre where the telegram traffic was received on many M15's
and the print quality had to be rite on...Company was very
insistant on having the messages looking decent...
I spent many hours on end with an idling American Beauty soldering iron, I
think it was rated at abt 140 watts or so!
I did receive some degree of satisfaction after finishing a basket, seeing
the great improvement in print quality...
After one particular difficult re-alignment, shop sup'r
came by, looked at the results and said, you mite want to check the typebar
fulcrum rod...Did so, and sure enuf, it
was badly slotted causing all kinds of grief (For me!)
They are very hard, but do wear...Food for thought for
those printers whose copy is really bad!
'Nuff said, but was fun thinking about this task as
given to me so long ago...
Cheers!
