[GreenKeys] Clockwork Doll mechanism

I recommend viewing the movie "Hugo" from 2011. One of these automatons 
is a key "character" in the film, which has lots of other fantastical 
machinery and clocks as well. Has anyone heard about someone automating 
a "talking machine" to recite a sentence? I am NOT  speaking of a 
phonograph, but rather the machine from the 1850s or 60s that mimicked 
the human vocal tract and was controlled by a keyboard and pedals. It 
required considerable practise and skill to operate, but could produce  
surprisingly life like and  intelligible human speech. There weren't 
very many of them made, they were presented in theaters and other 
exhibitions, mostly in Europe.
