[GreenKeys] Clockwork Doll mechanism

I recommend viewing the movie "Hugo" from 2011. One of these automatons
is a key "character" in the film, which has lots of other fantastical
machinery and clocks as well. Has anyone heard about someone automating
a "talking machine" to recite a sentence? I am NOT speaking of a
phonograph, but rather the machine from the 1850s or 60s that mimicked
the human vocal tract and was controlled by a keyboard and pedals. It
required considerable practise and skill to operate, but could produce
surprisingly life like and intelligible human speech. There weren't
very many of them made, they were presented in theaters and other
exhibitions, mostly in Europe.
