Dave - I do not even see them that much in  photos even...  yea  that paper 
holder  caught my eye  also!

Don't need one, just poking around.

I can't help with the need for the Teletype  machines, but I think the
third photo was flipped. Looking at the 28ASR the  gent is operating in
the foreground, it appears to be a "left handed" ASR,  as does the
machine the woman in the middle of photo is operating! Also,  the 28KSR
to the left in that photo appears to have the knob on the copy  holder
also on the left.

I flipped the photo (attached) and I think  it is now correct.
