[GreenKeys] Tools you can use.

After reading a bit I discovered that USP 184993 is actually referred to as
a Boston Wrench and was produced by the Boston Wrench company. Looking at
the original Stillson patent, which is here

http://www.datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?number=95,744&type=

you can see that the a Stillson has a pivot in it. However both of
Stillson's patents use a nut on a threaded rod, and have a spring in them.
The spanner in the picture has a short piece of threaded rod that turns
against a rack and not spring, so not the same thing. The other type of pipe
wrench I am familiar with my dad always called a "footprint" wrench..

Who would have thought there were so many types of adjustable spanners...

Dave

The thing in the picture is properly a Stillson wrench see USP 184993
The other kind is a "pipe wrench" for instance USP 765912 or 2629280
There are probably many others.

I'm not sure how these tools came to be called "monkey wrenches" - which is
common vernacular - but from plumbing work, I know them as a 'union wrench'.

That is, they're used to torque the nut in a pipe union. Unlike pipe
fittings, union nuts have big flats on them, and they're not designed to be
torqued with a standard pipe wrench that tends to crush the workpiece.

is really a Monkey Wrench"

Oh, great: This new "Day Planner" I bought has
nothing but blank pages. Now I have no idea
what I'm supposed to be doing tomorrow.
