Ah, gotta love English! I live it every day with my high school
students who are mostly English language learners. These kids and their
families are new immigrants. It can be quite interesting and often
amusing in class (I teach math) when the subtleties of English and all
the homonyms start flying around. And there's the kids who did learn
some English before coming here from former British colonies so what
English they understand is UK English, so this born-n-bred American kid
is saying things like "zed" to not confuse them too much when the
variable Z comes up in problem.
