[GreenKeys] M40 Typecarriers...

Someday I'll get a 40 running, if anything long enough to do a video with
sound, has to have sound :-)
A couple years ago I picked up two NIB wide 40 printers,
Both of the arrived with the pallets scattered within the printers and the
bottom of the boxes. Luckily
since the boxes were new there were no holes for them to escape.
I played around with was making my own belt. The toothed belt could easily
be made, nothing special,
and I came up with a way of making my own pallet holders that could be
attached to the belt. The idea
was to bond to the flat side of the belt a strip of elastomer (think rubber
band but synthetic) the belt
wold be wider then the belt, and about 1/8 thick. Into the belt rectangular
holes would be punched out
and at the same time a notch would be cut, making 'fingers'
The holes are smaller then the pallets, the pallets would then be pushed
into the holes. And if needed
held in place with a RTV or uV cured. Anyway other projects took over.
Then about a year ago I got two NIB narrow replacement belts without
pallets. To my surprise the
belts were not decomposed, brittle, etc. Since they were narrow and I
needed the wide version I put
the whole project on the back burner.
My guess is what has caused the rubber in the belts to decompose is oil,
even the oil vapors. Which is quite common if
the wrong type of rubber is use. Hence you will never find a belt that has
been installed that is any good.
If I ever come across a replacement wide belt or a narrow printer, I'll
move the printers closer to the
top of the pile.

BTW Even though I've never seen a replacement belt with pallets, my guess
is if one did, oil was
used and the belt would be toast.
