Hi Jeff,

these links you sent to me are just what I needed to see. Thank you so much! I am going to  get that burnishing tool. The application note that you linked to is very informative and reassuring, that the effect I am seeing is  likely to be expected.

The set is working fine the way I am using it. I was primarily concerned that there might be some latent problem that should be addressed and repaired. After I do the re-cleaning and burnishing I will retest the signals. It may be a few weeks before I can accomplish this.

Also, if I want to try some radio teletype, then I was concerned that the glitches would degrade the quality of the FSK or AFSK signal.

 The problem is, ALL mechanical
 contacts tend to bounce a little bit.
 Notably from open to closed (space to mark).
 Hence the suggestion
 of adding a
 "de-bouncing" circuit between the mechanical
 contacts
 and any solid state inputs.
