Interestingly enough the machine did appear to operate OK with just the
one selector magnet coil when I ran it briefly Tuesday evening. I did
notice earlier in the day when I tried it just in its own local loop
that some characters didn't appear to type/print correctly, but at that
point I was blaming possibly dirty contacts in the keyboard distributor.
Putting the machine into the house loop -- which is powered from a HAL
ST-5000 -- everything seemed to work OK. I think the little loop supply
I was using -- a home brew thing with a C7 Christmas tree lamp for the
ballast resistor -- might've been showing up the missing coil.
With the repaired coil the machine operated very well, though I can't
say that I saw any difference, and looking at the printed copy from both
runs I don't see dropped or incorrect characters from Tuesday's test.
I was fortunate, nay d*mn lucky, that the damage to this coil was such
that it wasn't too hard to repair. I didn't have to remove anything
from the machine; at first I thought I might have to remove that coil
from the selector to work on it. I was able to find two ends with
enough lead on them to be able to test continuity and more importantly,
tack solder a splice to them.

Thanks. It's given me a bit of kick-start back into playing with my
Teletype machines again. When I was "burning in" the 26 on ITTY last
night I turned on a couple of other machines in the livery here and
exercised them, too. Most of my machines are in the house loop so I can
throw 'em on whenever something is going on the loop.
