If you don't mind recompiling a device driver you can indeed make the raspberry
pi (the old one at least) speak 45 baud on the builtin TTL-level serial port,
but I still prefer using a USB-serial adapter anyway, since I don't have to
have a whole linux kernel build tree lying around to build from, and remember
how to repackage it, etc.
