I'm usually silent on this list, but feel I need to weigh in to this 
query.  I'm 63 and have been around teletypes most of my life.  My dad 
(W5VLB / W7EJY) now SK, has a model 15 in our house as early as I can 
remember (at least as far back as 1958.)  Mostly tuned to wire service 
broadcasts, since I didn't have a license at the time.  We all thought 
it was normal to read the news three or more days before it showed up in 
the papers.

In highschool (late 60s) built my first TU and got on the air.  Haven't 
done much since, alas, though I *am* in the process of getting a station 
on the air.

Currently I have a 15 (my dad's old unit) and a 28 (KSR) with three 
speed shift.  Some random external tape equipment will go online too. 
Definitely into the 'metal' side of TTY-dom.  Have never worked glass 
tty and don't plan to until I am forced to downsize...

I'll admit to being old, but not yet a geezer :-)
