[GreenKeys] Under 40?! Call out for age...

69 here in the deep south.

Saw and worked on my first teletype machines in tech school for the USAF in 1966. Trained on M19s, M28s, TT98s, TT117s, and even two different models of mechanical encryption machines. One was the KL7 that I did get to work with at my second duty station from mid 68 to the end of 1969. The other piece I can't even remember the model number. I did see it at my first duty station after tech school as us FNGs had to have something to do while we waited on our security clearances so they had us haul all of these machines to base salvage for destruction. Only time I ever saw this particular piece of equipment except at tech school.

My real love is Kleinschmidt machines, as that is what I worked on almost exclusively at my 2nd duty station. There were only two of us with the clearances to work in the AF Security Service comm center on Kadena and the other guy outranked me, so guess who spent most of the time there working on the Kleinschmidts in that center. Other than the KL7s there, the only teletype gear was Kleinschmidt. While the other big comm center on Kadena was mostly M28 gear, that was where the other 363x0s spent their time.

Subject: [GreenKeys] Under 40?! Call out for age...

Hello all,

The query posted about any Greenkeyers "under 40" made me curious...

That's a real dangerous thing for me.

What is the age range of Greenkeyers on here?

Can we identify who our tribal elders are, and who are the "tenderfoots"?

I'll go first. I'm 56, grew up around model 15's and forgot them completely

when I was in high school. I rediscovered all this when I turned 54. So I am

slowly returning to childhood!

I'm probably the youngest Greenkeyer. That being said, if it is indeed so,

would make me the "cub", and the go-fer for the rest of you guys. What

better place to be, than lowliest of all, and student of all... I may not have

come from your era, but I can continue the madness!

OK. Any others? It can't be any more embarrassing. I waded in first!

73!

Mark
