Well, I'm 70. I ran first into teleprinters when I was employed by the dutch PTT.
At that time, around 1975-1984, the "production" models were Siemens T68 and T100.
We had Model 14's as backup system, meaning that we had a lot of them, about 40 or so, and each of them was connected to one specific telegtraph office.
For everyday use, we had 9 T68's (later T100's) for receiving telegrams, with answerbacks "31068 Rx GV NL", where the x could be A..I.
Then we had about 8 for transmitting telegrams, and they were aptly called "31068 Tx GV NL", GV standing for 's-Gravenhage, or as english speakers call it :The Hague.
We had 5-6 T100's for receiving telegrams from telex subscribers. Words were then counted, billed, and sent on via 31068 Tx.
Normally, a country would have a special prefix, just like with telephones today.
However, we had 4 foreign telegraph offices with dutch subscriber numbers : Montreal (11680), East Berlin (31275), Warszawa (31751) and Praha (31677) (If I recall correctly).
This did inbetween give some problems, e.g. when a west german office needed to talk to east berlin, when the russions (or STASI) had blocked the incoming lines.
In this case, I did once give the dutch number to EastBerlin to the Frankfurt/Main office.
