Or I could set the machine speed to 63 WPM and be wrong at both
speeds.
The whole point here is that the i-Telex guys are mostly running 50
Baud, and most RTTY operation is at 45.45 Baud.
Determining correct motor speed and controlling isn't that big a deal.

I did the math for the phase locked loop, and in an 18 bit binary word
for the divider, I only have to change a single bit for the two different
speeds.

This way, I can be right for both speeds.
