Yes! this is the one blessing we have with the heat here in Arizona.
Things dry fast!
Oiling as soon as dry is a good thing to prevent rust. Ed#

I have cleaned a few gunky units, though some folks may disagree with my
method:
- sprayed on some degreaser and let it soak a bit
- went down to the car wash and used the high-pressure wash hose to clean
everything off
- back to the garage for a liberal use of the air compressor to dry it
off
- let it sit in the hot arizona sun for final drying
However, be careful -- don't bend fragile parts with compressed air, be
sure to dry and re-oil wicks right away... Then you can take your time
disassembling as much as is needed for the rebuild.

I've had the best luck with mineral spirits. I've tried citrus-based
degreasers, Simple Green, denatured alcohol, and none of those worked as well
as mineral spirits. Of course, if Perc (TCE) was still available, that
would be my first choice, but it's not good for you or the environment...
I'd love to hear from other list members what's worked for them.
Keith

Greetings Listees,
Progress has started with the two Lorenz '15's I have. Thanks to several
great list members, I have several books and tutorials on the theory. The
first unit tackled was the parts machine keyboard, which I have cleaned and
believe I have working, or at least close enough to just need adjustment.
The typing unit is going to be much more of a challenge. It has a petty
good layer of gunk over it. Is there some bath you can put these in that
will cut the grease but not do damage? That would save a lot of time. It's not
imperative I get this unit running, it was destined as spare parts for the
good machine but its a great way to gain some practical experience with
them.
Regards All,
Keith ve3ts
