Hi all...
There has been a bit of chatter regarding the hard to locate
M32/33 platen knobs...
I am also on the hunt for one...I wish I had at least
a "Cracked" one I cud use...
When I was working for CNCP Telex service, I had at least
one or two calls a week for split platen knobs...
My quick fix was to remove the split platen knob, and
slip a small nylon type ty-rap over the part where it
slips over the platen end, abt a quarter inch or so in
from the knob end...Tightening it just enuf to close
the split area...
It was a perfect cure and long lasting...Customers never
really noticed the mod, as I always cleaned the knob before
putting it back on the platen shaft...
The ty-raps I used had the "Metal" locking insert in them,
not the cheap dollar store ones like now...Avoid these...
As far as the colour of the platen knobs, first ones
were grey and had a flat end on the tubular part, later ones
were still grey, but was "Slanted" on the tubular end...
Last ones were a hard white plastic, easily splits with age
or use, and were slanted on the end...
There was a cuple of "Canadian" versions made by Leigh
Instruments and Marsland, a softer pliable type plastic,
which I never had to replace...
Thanks guys, pls feel free to send me a "Broken" one...
I'll be happy to pay the postage etc...
Cheers,
Ken VE3-HMQ
