[GreenKeys] Making spare parts

Dear GreenKeys members

I've been lurking on this list for some time as I'm
interested in the Teletype ASR-33 for a teaching
project of mine.

But I've noticed quite a bit of discussion of the
availability of spare parts for various machines,
and it occurs to me that there might be some useful
work I can perform in that area in connection with
a different project of mine.

I've got a research grant to look into 3D-scanning and
computer-aided manufacture of movable type from the
letter-press era. (The manufacturing methods we're looking
into include 3D-printing and sintering, laser cutting,
3D-routing, and so on.) It occurs to me that we might
also see if we can make spare parts for the machines
that of interest to those on this list. The processes
we're trying out are good for small-run manufacturing
that would normally be uneconomic by conventional
manufacturing methods.

If anybody is interested in my team exploring the
possibilities for reproducing hard-to-source spare
parts, then please send the parts to me:

Please don't send anything terribly big or heavy as
I don't want to incur very large costs mailing the
stuff back to you. Our processes don't harm the
objects we reproduce: it's mainly laser scanning
and photography. It might take a couple of months
to return what you lend us.

Regards

Gabriel
