It figures that the Model 26, a "cost reduced" machine, would have
crap wire. Model 15 machines use General Electric Deltabeston felted
asbestos wire ("will not age or crack", says the ad) which holds up
over the decades. That's why their wire holds up. Don't strip it,
though; that releases dust.
I've completely rewired Model 14 machines, which have
varnished fabric wire that doesn't last. But I didn't use
that special restoration wire with cloth over modern insulation.
That stuff is expensive. $65 for a 200 foot spool.
