Today I went to the grocery store and there were a couple of
older veterans outside handing out poppies for donations. One
of them noticed my ham license plate and related that he had been 
a Navy radioman during the Korean war. As we chatted people
would come up and ask about the poppies, lousy education system,
and he would patiently explain the meaning. It saddened me to
know how many people were ignorant of the poppie story. So
with Memorial Day coming up how about sending out the story of
the poppies and maybe the poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae.

I'm really tired of the day turning into sales, car races and picnics.
We don't even have parades to help remember the meaning anymore.
Please remember the vets and those that never returned on Memorial Day.
