Be careful. The R-388 was a 51J3. At least all the ones I have owned. The R-388(A) was the 51J4 as I recall.
The picture with the listing is a 51J3. This is clear because there is no filter width switch behind the BFO Pitch knob so no mechanical filters.
As you say, the 53J3 is pre mechanical filter.
