Actually the Model 28 was made for the military and they were put in service
in 1951. As Truman was president from 1945 to 1953 it sure is plausible the
story behind this one is factual.

Welllll - Ike was elected in 1956.  Model 28s were available before that,
I'm not sure how much before but I think maybe 1954.  At first they were
available only to military/government because of limited production and
military need.
