Hi Ralph...

Check the stripper bail adjustment, if it is not rising high enuf,
it may not be stripping away the function pawls after initial
selection...As these function levers/pawls etc are at the
extreme end of the stunt box, any wear or play in the
stripper bail drive link can cause erratic operation...Also
ensure well lubed with fine oil, and excersize manually, the pawls, levers
etc. to ensure free movement...Lastly,
check the top surface of the stripper bail, to see if there is
any "Notch-like" wear in the area of contact with the pawls...
