Jim,

Many people talk as if the MITE TTY was developed and manufactured by a
sewing machine company in New Hartford, CT.

But Bernard Howard's original company was Teleprinter Corp. (mentioned
in WUTR and AWA Museum has a AN/TGC-14 that says "Teleprinter Corp." on
it) of Paramus, NJ. Also, WUTR mentions working with Teleprinter Corp.
and possibly investing in them (WU was looking for a cheaper, smaller
machine than the M28).

The sewing machine company story comes about because on 7 Mar 1961,
Teleprinter Corp. merged with the Greist Manufacturing Co. of New Haven,
CT. Greist was a general manufacturing company and made everything from
measuring gages to sewing machine attachments, straight razors, and
anti-aircraft guns. Teleprinter Corp may have merged with Greist just
to get access to their manufacturing capability.

At some point (just like the Morkrum-Kleinschmidt Co.), Teleprinter
Corp. shortened their name to their product's model name "MITE" (which
stood for Miniaturized Integrated Teleprinter Equipment).

Thanks for scanning that huge manual!

Duncan
