Hi all...

Just adding a little more info to the chatter re: dating the
M15's...

Back in 1967, when I was apprenticing in the TTY shop,
one of my first jobs was to clean up & organize the storage
area. I came across one "Brand new" M15 typing unit,
still crated from Teletype Corp'n...It had been in the shop
since the mid 50's...

This typing unit was completely aluminum as I recall, and
had the metal paper spool in the side frames, equipped with
the sliding spindle locks...

I haven't. seen any units with any serial numbers beyond the
mid 150K range.

There were many complete M15 machines, that were factory
fungicide treated, hence the red stampings on the various
assemblies, this wud date these units between 1941 and on.
Again, for the Korean war, similar anti-fungal treatment was
applied. I believe these units were stamped with a more orange than red
markings...

On a final note, some of the very "Latest" M15 typing units,
used a black oxide finish for the codebar separator washers
on the type basket...I still have a few of them in my parts
stash, having been ordered to stock back in the early 70's!

If anyone has one of these units w/the black washers, I wud
gess the mfg date to be in early 60's...

Cheers!
