Doug,
I know Teletype oil had some paraffin or the like in it to make it stick and/or last longer. If I didnt have a little Teletype oil left I would use 10 WT non detergent.
For grease I just use Lubriplate. I only use it on the motor and speed gears and the selector cam lobes. All other moving parts get the oil.
I believe I read the quote from some 32/33 maintenance manual to "renew the grease" with oil with oil when servicing a 32/33.
The only place I use a lighter oil is in the carriage vertical positioning levers where they pivot on a shaft under the carriage. 3 in 1 oil after freeing them up with solvent.
Breakaway is a good product to free congealed grease. Just use it carefully and not on or near plastic contact blocks. It smells bad for a few days and then is fine.
Once you get all the congealed oil and grease free 'd up and run the machine often you should not have any issues with sticking.
Just my 2 cents worth. Other guys use different stuff and likely its better.

Subject: [GreenKeys] Recommended lubricants for Model 33
I have Teletype maintenance manuals for the Model 33 from the
960s (manuals that came with the TTY I have), but I'm wondering.
ubricating oils have come a long way from the time those manuals
ere printed. Synthetics that never leave behind any gums much
vaporation there has been would be particularly nice.
What brings this to mind is the fact that many of the lubricants
n the old mechanism turned to gum in the years between then and
ow. Degumming things involved, in many cases, complete disassembly,
nd in other cases, Q-tips and wipedowns with things like WD-40
nd Goo-gone. Now that things are pretty nearly gum-free, the
uestion is, what to use to re-lubricate that minimizes the
ikelihood of gummy stuff over the next 50 years.
The manual mentions the following lubricants
- KS7470 oil
- KS7471 grease
- 108805 grease
(and what's that about something without a KS number, I thought
verything in the world had KS numbers, at least if it was used
n maintenance of anything built by an AT&T subsidiary.)
So, what are the modern equivalents of these lubricants?
