[GreenKeys] suggestion for ST6 Modification.

Yes, the delay is adjustable but the loop remains closed
during that 25 to 40 seconds. The loop opens when the
motor shuts down. It's all in the fine manual.

  Gentlemen,

I find some of the comments in this thread to be confusing. Since, by design, there is an adjustable delay of 25 to 40 seconds after the "loss of signal" until the motor shuts down I would think that this "long time" of open running of the machine would have driven operators absolutely crazy in 1973. So I have to wonder whether or not the critical (and admittedly lengthy) Auto-Start tune up procedure has been followed by people with this problem.

The overall tuneup procedure for the ST-6 is extensive and if you do not have access to it I fail to see how the TU can be operated! There is more to this than just a "relay."

My mistake. You are all correct. Loop does open when the motor stops. But as several have suggested, it would be nice to hold the loop for a few seconds while the motor spins down.

Thanks everyone and sorry about the error

In the ST-6, the autostart motor relay also opens the loop.

I've seen a lot of ST-6's with that feature "jumpered out"....

If I remember correctly, both the motor and the loop

current are cutoff at the same time. I remember the

machine running open for the few seconds while the

Model 28 ran down. But, I've slept since then.

      Hi Joe & Eugene,

I reckon it would be desirable after the auto-start relay times out, to have a few seconds delay before opening the loop otherwise the machine will run open while the motor slows down.

The ST-6 does cut off the loop current and motor already but I don't know whether there is any delay on the loop current being cut.

I believe the HAL ST-6 does this already. When the auto-start relay times out, it also disconnects the loop supply.

        Hello all,

I’ve been bitten with the autostart bug. As I refamiliarize myself with the ST6 (having not played with it much in a few years). I realized that even after it turns the motor outlet off, the loop current remains flowing. I thought it would be a good mod to have the loop open up when the motor turns off to safe heat, magnets, etc. I thought one solution might be to change the motor relay to one that has another pole. Then run the loop through that pole. So when the relay opens, so does the loop.

But I wonder if there would be a more elegant solution that would be purely electronic and not have to change the relay. Or perhaps there really is not benefit in turning off the loop.
