[GreenKeys] Model 28/35 mainshaft doweling procedure

When I was working at Western Electric, management assumed anyone there over 10 years wasn’t hirable by anyone else. This tended to make them somewhat heavy handed. Anyway, one of the engineers would spend his vacation time interviewing for other jobs. He would take acceptance letters and job offers from other companies and post them on the walls of his cube. Whenever management types came over to harass him, he would lean back in his chair, put his feet on his desk and stare pointedly at the job offers taped to his walls. This really unnerved lower level management types. Some of the upper level managers got a laugh out of it but pretty much left him alone.

  Yes,

As Teletype repairmen for Bell, we were expected to repair the machines in less than two hours.
Sometimes this was impossible... made worse by AT&T calling to "see how you are doing.
As a 32 year veteran of the elevator business, I would always tell those calling me for a "progress" report that they had just set me back two hours, and if they called me again, it
could easily be tomorrow before it was repaired. Saying that to a mangement type at AT&T was probably not survivable.

It takes a bit of dexterity and patience. It also helps to have good
lighting and good eyesight. No phone calls or other distractions (visit the MENs before starting)

That brings up a question- were there any women working as Teletype repair people?
