Peripheral to this is my irritation with the folks who want to make us
pay state and local sales taxes on Internet purchases.  They talk about
"levelling the playing field" for local merchants.  But whenever I need
something that can't be found locally - such as electronic parts not
carried by Radio Shack - I have to order online and wait several days
for delivery and pay shipping.  So I'm hardly buying online just to
escape paying state and local taxes.
