Tony and others - I built a regenerative SW set and it was ... well
ok
hated the un calibrated dial etc..... but
I started with a Firestone table radio with SW band and about the same
time
my grandmother gave me...
then I got a S 40B Hallicrafters ( just re-got one for old times sake!)
My grandmother downsized and she gave me the EH Scott 800B
what a great sounding radio!
and then I got a navy RBM SW set...
which started the influx of all
the all the tonnage of surplus gear!
Then when in the USAF I would use the spare r390a to SWL with...
we had one from tower WWV and an would use the spare to SWL with
Now have lots of stuff on display in SMECC but what i fire up is a
r388 collins and a solid state Kenwood R-1000 and some
countermeasures receivers for UHF and microwave. ( but they are pretty wide band!)
Jeff speaking of Drake 2B receiver Robert Weitbrecht the father of
deaf teletype communications had one... it is going to be in a static
display so need not work or be complete even! ( but if it is so much the
better!) need just the base receiver... he did not have the matching speaker ..

GN OMs;
Me and my Dad went over to one of his fellow co-worker's
house for dinner. His fellow co-worker was an amateur
radio operator. I had no idea what that meant. After
dinner he took us out to the garage, pulled out a home-brew
regenerative shortwave receiver, connected a piece of "random wire"
to it, and fired it up.
There are no words in the English language to explain how
mesmerized I was!
