OK. Thanks Ed.  I appreciate it.

There were really three families--   the 72x such as I have referenced,
the 73x (which many folks remember as having dual data cassette drives
mounted above the printer), and the 74x which were the more "modern"
briefcase and truely portable units.

The 72x and 73x have no microprocessor and are all discrete logic on
plug-in cards in a card cage at the back of the unit.

The 74x used an 8080 microprocessor to replace most of the discrete
logic and also used a much smaller printhead.  Some of the 74x line could
also do "lowercase" by simply printing smaller uppercase characters ;-)

We can run them today using thermal FAX paper which you can still get
at office supply stores.  The rolls are smaller but it's the same paper
and works great.

But, as you note, the printhead is the most precious part and once that's
toast, the rest of the machine becomes a parts donor.
