GreenKeyers:
I have a code cross reference chart which might be of value to some GreenKeyer people. It is in .pdf format
and is less than 2MB in size, so it will go through the e-mail system with no problem. It starts at HEX ØØ
and runs through HEX FF, down the left column, over 18 pages.
Across the top of the chart are the various categories of "Key Codes", "Paper Tape Codes", "BCD Codes" and
"Card Codes".
That line reads:
HEX EBCDIC ASCII FRIDEN IBM 1050 BAUDOT EIA ICL IBM HON. NCR BURR. ICL IBM ICL
The reason for the apparent duplications is that some items have an equivalent in more than one of the
categories.

This chart is something that I borrowed from my workplace around 40 years back. A company called "Mohawk
Data Sciences" got a contract for time keeping and recording employee's arrivals and departures from the
Ford plant where I worked. Their machines read punches on employee ID cards and recorded the info directly
to magnetic tape. Prior to this, our 'punch cards' at the time clocks were "IBM Cards", with our name and
department number preprinted on them. At the end of the week, they had to be picked up, run through some
sort of reader, and the results transferred to some magnetic medium for transfer to the central location for
paycheck production, etc.
The Mohawk equipment created an instant working source of information which could be directly input into a
computer for much faster record keeping and paycheck production.

Now that I've bored most of you silly, what I want to do is make this item available to any and all via
e-mail. I have already distributed a few copies of it to 'interested parties', but there may be a few more
out there whose libraries might actually benefit from having this info.
I don't think that much design work will be based on this information, but it could conceivably save someone
a bit of time if they need some sort of cross reference about various data sources. For a few it might
simply be a bit of interesting history about data handling/generating systems of the past.
The entire file consists of 21 pages, 8.5" x 11", scanned to .pdf format. Total size is 1.9MB. It won't
take up much space.
The ASCII column contains all 256 possibilities, although some are not identified as to use. Both upper and
lower case alpha characters are in there, along with "Device Control" codes, document formatting codes, etc.
I think that the un-identified items might be the 'other parity' equivalent of the rest of the chart.
If, you've read this far and want a copy, just send me an e-mail and mention "Multi Code Chart". You will
get a copy by return e-mail. Anyone who has deleted this is forgiven!
