I, like most readers, find all of this story very sad and, frankly, upsetting.
Personally I was not aware that TNMOC was a separate part of Bletchley. As someone who has not yet had the chance to visit Bletchley (I currently live in Italy) but intend to do so I was most certainly expecting to see Colossus etc as part of the visit. I suspect many others would be the same. To read that the Trust is actually erecting a barrier between the two is unbelievable. Also, how do they justify charging this kind of rent? Who owns the Bletchley site anyway? Surely it's the UK taxpayer? If not, how did ownership get transferred?
Without knowing any of the details it seems from the reports that the Bletchley Park Trust has lost its marbles, ironically possible as a result of receiving significant funding for its work. Is this yet another example of how money has poisoned and overruled the original main objectives of such projects? I wonder how donors to the Trust would have acted had they known in advance that this would be the result? Has some new "money man" been put in charge of the Trust recently who is fixated on power and reward rather than the primary purposes and the reason why Bletchley exists at all today?
Do other like me feel something more must be done about this? If so, surely something can be done.
Could someone who is more "in the know" on this story start a petition at change.org? Also, how about writing to the Royal Computer Society to ask for their assistance?
As I remember Google was/is a major donor to the Bletchley trust. If some kind of action was started and the management of Google made aware of what the guys they gave their money to are up to I feel sure they could exert some useful pressure.
What do people think? How can these guys be made to act reasonably and, if anything, be looking at how they can collaborate together and, dare I say it, pool resources?
This is after all about two key objectives - preserving important history and educating people - no other objectives can be allowed to usurp these two.
