Oh, I get that too.
But... when the question is "why bother?", I ask "why not?" Then comes the pause
and the funny looks, and then it's my turn. "What does this machine and your computer
have in common? Ever heard of something called binary? Ones and zeros? Ever typed
an email? Oh yeah, today? Did you use capitols or numbers? Did you have any idea
that the basis for modern binary code is more than 100 years old, and you use it all
of the time?" laugh
Just like at D-Day Conneaut last year when we were out in the middle of NO-WHERE.
Most people didn't have a single bar of reception on their phones, here's my TG-7B,
happily clacking out the news from Sequim, WA. (where's your internet now, kid,
at home? Lol) I made sure to pass out copy to people it most effected. I remember
a particularly funny moment as a woman read a story aloud, about a future shortage
of shrimp effecting the Red Lobster Chain. "I can't believe it", she said. "I love that
place!" A murmur came over the crowd.
It's all about perspective. I love these machines and what they do. They are exciting,
and rarely do I go a day without learning something new. One thing is for certain,
they aren't for everyone. Some people are fine with a level of what Kim Kardashian
can understand and that's ok. Me? Not so much. I'd rather get to know it as best I can.
When the grid goes down, they will be back.
Kevin
