And for those who might care, the original RTTY magazines were addressed
with Addresograph plates - somewhere there is a picture of Merrill Swan
W6AEE operating the machine. I don't think he had the machine to make
the plates - probably had that done for him by an outside firm.

I remember attending a conference and exhibition where they used
Addressograph plates for the attendees - the idea was that you could
visit a vendor's booth and the vendor could take your name and address
that way faster than he could take the information down manually.
But getting the plates made at the registration desk turned into a
major bottleneck.

Was Addressograph the same company that made the Multigraph? My father
had one of those machines. It had a drum faced with t-slots so that
pieces of type could be slid into them. There was a composing tool for
picking up the pieces of type from the holder and making lines that would
then be slid into the t-slots. Then when printing was finished the
lines of type could be put back into the composing tool and it could be
used to deposit them back into the holder. There was provision for
inking the type with a rubber roller and ink, or with an inked ribbon.
Using the ribbon made the printed sheet look like it was individually
typewritten. I think my father gave his machine to the company to use
in their museum.
