Yes. Although Teletype was a subsidiary of W.E. it was not required to
use the parent company's products. And it was usually easier not to,
since the other companies were in the business of selling to
manufacturers; whereas W.E. mostly made parts for use in its own
equipment. Teletype used a lot of the W.E. wire spring relays, but
I can't think of much else that was used in large quantities at
Teletype. I have no idea how the whole supply chain operated. If
a Bell operating company repairman need a Teletype part he ordered it
using the Teletype part number, putting TP as a prefix to the part
number. I suppose in some cases that could have resulted in ordering
a Western Electric part from Teletype rather than from W.E.
