Dave,
Thanks for the call and nice chat.
I am looking into a couple of 32 ASR Telex that I have restored. One belongs to the family of the SK ham friend who had the large Collins collection. The 32 is near museum quality. I restored it for him to try to repay him for the radio's and antennas he has given me over the years. We also worked together at Vermont Public TV. I have hesitated to call them for some personal reasons related to the loss of my friend and Elmer. He was 3 weeks younger than me and was gone too soon.
The other is the NYC machine I mentioned. Its very nice, but a notch below museum quality.
Any new machine we ran across still in the box would not run due to the congealed grease issue.

Wayne,
Thanks so much for spending time with me by phone today. I learned more in this conversation about teletypes then everything I knew previously!
As discussed, my mission is to acquire a like-new machine for amateur-radio use. I am OK with either the 32 or 33 as discussed.
I am willing to do the restoration work - repaint, re-chrome, etc. but am hopeful to find a complete unit with all parts and nothing broken (or huge dents/scratches that can never be fixed).
The better the unit is, the more I am willing to pay. I have budgeted a year for the project - I hope to get on next years RTTY roundup with a real machine!
Thank you again for keeping your "ear" to the ground for me.
In the mean time, if I find a unit myself, I may need to send it to you to be refurbished - I assume that you can make anything like new mechanically!
thanks!

P.S. I think I can make replacement rubber hammer "covers" on a 3D printer - I am having our mechanical engineer take a look at that project as a favor.
