FWIW, diversity RTTY was the standard for military & commercial comms since before WW2. For example, see my page on Navy diversity receiver systems at
http://www.navy-radio.com/rcvr-div.htm
For frequency multiplexed systems (e.g. 16 RTTY signals in one SSB voice channel) the RTTY signals were normally twinned to provide freq diversity. Shipboard space diversity could be difficult at lower frequencies :-)

Even though I've been interested in this stuff for over a half century I had no idea that this existed nor did I ever read about it being used in active ham radio! And it has only been a few years since diversity reception and related functions have been available as a software defined radio product. I did look at the photos on the auction site and must admit that I found that very interesting. And since it is possible for me to try such stuff since I do have a capable radio and antennas separated by more than a wavelength the process is possible for me. But given the fact that ham radio has so many fascinating aspects today I will admit that "True RTTY" is fairly far down on my project list. But if you guys start reporting that actual QSOs are taking place with real machines I will certainly give this some real thought! Weak signal and digital modes are my principal interests.
