Back about 1963 I remember a Cocoa Beach, Florida, newspaper aricle about a fellow that was doing that sort of thing with lead and, I think, was selling the results as a sort of artwork (mounted unside down).

Quite amazing! to actually produce a metal representation of the? ant city!
 ?
A note of warning though ...if there is a lot of moisture in the? ground?? the aluminum will?literally? explode back up? towards? you with the moist? earth.? We had a great? foundry? area in High School and eve once in a while? someone? would? slop molten aluminum?? on the most? California concrete resulting? in exploding floor material!

Hey, here is an unusual thing to do:? pour molten metal into an ant hill, and dig up a mold of the colony.? Yeah, it kills all the ants, of course, but shows just how deep and wide those lil buggers dig.

Personally, I leave ants alone if they are far enough away from the house.? If they are near the house or getting inside, then it is time for them to go.? Amdro is my fav chem to nuke the nest, but maybe next time it's time to fire up the kiln!
