If I recall Mylar® tape was only available in 1 inch width. Any tape
that was used for very important message would be kept.
Also they may have used other tape transmitters that were set for one
inch. ASCII did not come until 1963 so I am not sure
what the other use would be... Probably scientific with the use of the
LARP and BRPE punches. I am confused as to the
dates in these messages which call out 1960 as well as 1970... hmmm

Interesting that it shows 5-level code on an 8-level wide tape......

Here's the best photo I've found yet of the teletype (they were using
AS/R 28 at 100 wpm in the 70's) at NORAD CMC National Warning Center.
The EAN tape was kept on red mylar in a locked cabinet, with an
identical setup in Bldg 11, Area B, High Point / Special Facility. The
authenticators had to be manually inserted at autostops. It took about
five minutes to send an EAN tty. In a recent FOIA request, DOD
responded. effectively, "We have no idea what you're talking about."
This is also referenced in John Cross' blog post on the WHCA manual.
Hoping to get somewhere, maybe, with the Pres Ford Library or the
successor ADCOM/NORAD command historian. Maybe the Natl Archives.
