Don’t think there is an expiration on grease but I am no expert. I know that it turns to rock sometimes in gears that have not moved in some time. Seen oil that has turned to glue when it hardens.

Anyway looks like people recommend Lucas Red so Red it is. Tomorrow I will see if I can find it at our local home depot.

thanks

I've heard others recommend Lucas Red. I still have a can of the "brown" stuff we used in our shop 40 some odd years ago. It is labeled "Aircraft Grease." Wonder if there is a best used by date on the can!

I have finished installing a new shaft and gear in my teletype tt-100 and was wondering what the suggested grease would be for the motor gear area. I noticed the old grease was brown and my grease from my gm vehicle is red.
Not sure automobile grease would be proper and want to do this right. I am sure many have brought this up before but I did not see it in browsing the archive.
Any suggestions on a particular grease to use and where to purchase it? Thanks in advance and thanks to all that have been helping.
  Thanks
  Steve
