    I was in college when the missile crisis happened. I can 
tell you it was very frightening, people were sure the USSR 
was going to launch hydrogen missals at the U.S.
    I did not know enough of the history until much later to 
understand what an astonishing combination of blunders led 
to this.
    I also remember the assassination, it was just about the 
only thing people thought about for days. No one knew 
exactly what had happened and a great many of us still don't 
believe the official story.
