I was an Aircraft crew chief with a fighter outfit in northern 
Michigan.  6 airplanes and the "chiefs" bugged out and went to an 
civilian  field over near Alpena, Mi. and spent 36 hours.  That place 
was almost as bad as living in tents must have been.  Bare barracks, no 
heat and no food.  Pilots went to town several times a day and bought us 
back hamburgers and fries along with something to drink.  No, not 
Alcohol either!  If it hadn't been for them guys we would have been in a 
heck of a mess.
