If I remember right, Motorola used constant voltage transformers in the
Micor series repeaters. They were easy to spot by the flames and smoke
damage after a remote site lost power and the emergency generators
kicked in, at something NOT 60 Hz.

Constant voltage transformers are a "Good thing(tm)" as long as they
are on a solid 60 Hz supply. If not, things got ugly fast.
