George mentioned Reg Tibbetts and so I thought I'd share my little story
of how my path crossed his some years ago.
I never worked him on the air but while I was in charge of FCC
certification (both part 15 and part 68) at a company here in MN called
Multi-Tech Systems, where we were building direct connect telephone
modems, Reg did the Part 68 cert testing for us and filed all the
paperwork with the FCC.
I somehow figured out he was a ham and so when I sent a couple modems to
him for testing, I made a note that I too was a ham and gave my callsign.
He transposed the "N" with a "W" but that's OK.
He sent me one each of all of his QSL cards, a photo of his 36-element log
periodic array and a nice note (typed on a good 'ol fashioned typewriter),

I later researched all the stuff he had done in his career and was
quite impressed. I'm glad I got to correspond with him if not able to
actually meet him in person.
He passed away in '96.
