If you are thinking of using kerosene to do the cleaning, look for a gun cleaning solution called Ed's Red. It is a mix of kerosene, automatic transmission fluid, stoddard solvent and acatone or something like that in equal ammounts. Not good for plastic because of the acatone, but you can leave that out.
It is a mix that a gun writer came up with years ago and works really well for cleaning the crud off metal..
This is a mix you make yourself and not something off the shelf at a store.
The writeup on it will give the specific details of the mix and how the components work together.

Thanks, I will look into using kerosene or some form of solvent.
Thanks for the info,
Chuck
