Danny,
Take a look at the link below for a few pictures of a "box" I put together
using the circuit design and the programs available from John Nagle.
http://garrisonfamily.net/N4TTY/ttyconnect.htm
The small circuit board is John's design, but he shares it with everyone and
it can be found on his web site for the Aetheric Message Machine Company.
See his link under the "Connecting" button.
The cabinet I designed and ordered using Front Panel Express software.
His software requires you to install and become a little familiar with
Python. I have a preliminary document that still needs some work on getting
all the pieces working together.
You can receive RSS feeds for news from the likes of Rueters and others so
your machine mimics a old newsroom TTY. You can also, for the moment at
least, send and receive SMS text messages via a GoogleVoice number. And
receive some "Weather" info for some selected Cities.
Once you get familiar with Python you can adapt these programs to your
liking. I have a program that punches "eyeball" characters on paper tape so
the hole pattern on the tape becomes somewhat a banner tape. I will be
demonstrating some of this old time technology at a Maker's Faire in the
Atlanta area on the first weekend in October.
73,
Steve G./N4TTY
